Dozing in the afternoon
beneath the midday sun
Sprawled upon his resting place,
this is where he belongs.
Watching life just pass him by
a smile upon his face
As shades of red begin to show
the amount of time he wastes.
Overwhelmed by the burdens
of his priorities,
It’s time to kick back and relax
and embrace a life of ease.
With a six-pack by his side
a “ciggy” in his hand
Reclined within the afternoon
here lies the “perfect man”!
Pausing by the window
his wife looks out to see
Her husband in the garden
not working, but asleep!
Knitted brows resentful
that he can find the time
To doze amidst the ruins
hat has been his own design.
While inside she’s scrubbing
and sweeping all the floors
She’s busy in the kitchen
doing household chores;
And just when she thought he’s out there
working busily
Instead he’s sprawled there sleeping
suspended in the trees!
Ah, but you gotta love him
although he may frustrate
With all his idiosyncrasies
she cannot seem to shake;
Working hard throughout the week
chasing vast deadlines
The only speed he seems to know
at home is to unwind.
Yet nothing stirs him as he sleeps
not rain, hail or shine
And lightning crashes all around
lighting up the sky;
But still he can lay in fast slumber
dead to all the world
For nothing stirs a sleeping man,
(except a naked girl!)
Ah, my man of perfection
dozing in the sun
Worry not about the things
that still need to be done;
Just lay there and relax
I’ll cater to your needs
Serving you with beer and food,
if that’s what you REALLY believe!
